Choose Safe, Recyclable Plastic

There is no such thing as ‘away.’ When we throw something away, it must go somewhere. -Annie Leonard

In our modern world, it is a click of the mouse to purchase convenience. We ask that you take a second to review what impact your purchase will have on the environment. And choose safe, recyclable plastics.

What plastics should I choose?

#1 PET Polyethylene Terephthalate

#2 HDPE High Density Polyethylene

#5 PP Polypropylene

What plastics should I avoid:

#3 PVC Polyvinyl Chloride

#4 LDPE Low Density Polyethylene

#6 Polystyrene

#7 Other

How do you know? You can find what plastic your product is made of in the “specifications” area on the product packaging. It is also often on the product itself. Keep an eye out for the number or acronym associated with the plastic.

Choosing a safe, recyclable plastic is only the first step. Please practice recycling. Reach out to your community waste management facility for more information on your local programs.
